eDOT Custom Edition Tutorial
Problem Statement
Your company is working on a U.S. Defense Department contract aimed at finding new ways to store electronic data.
You have found a worker in Eastern Europe whom you’d like to hire for your company-specific position of Structural Physicist. But before you can determine the prevailing wage for this position, you need to find the standard job title.
You will use the eDOT software to pinpoint the standard job title.
Starting Out
First we open up PAQ's enhanced Dictionary of Occupational Titles. From now on we'll refer to it by its abbreviation, eDOT.
eDOT opens with a disclaimer. Please review it, then click on the circle next to "I have read and understand the disclaimer" and click the OK button.
When running eDOT for the first time, a screen titled 'Submit New Data' will appear to let
you input position data from your organization for use in future eDOT editions. (You can access this
option at any time from the eDOT Internet menu.) To skip this screen, click on the Cancel button at the lower right-hand corner.
You then need to select which edition of eDOT to use, depending on what type of analysis you want to run. For this exercise, you're looking for company-specific positions, so select the Custom edition from the drop-down menu.
Here's how:
Step 1: Click on the Edition menu at the top of the
eDOT screen.
Step 2: A drop-down menu will appear. Click on
Custom.
